The Open Adoption Project is a project my youngest son’s birth mother and I put together while she was visiting a couple weeks ago.
We asked The R House Facebook Community if they had any questions for a birth mother and the adoptive mother she placed with in an open adoption …and then we sat down in front of the camera and answered them candidly.
Why did you place your baby for adoption?
You can view all the posts in this project by following the Open Adoption Project tag or by checking out The R House’s YouTube Channel–just look for the yellow and white background.
We also hope that you will share your experiences in the comments. Why did you place your baby for adoption? As an adoptive parent, what do you tell your kids about why they were placed?
In thinking about this question, I feel like it is really important for kids to know why they were placed for adoption. If you are blessed to be in an open adoption relationship, take the time to record (in writing or video) your reasons for choosing adoption for your child or (for adoptive parents) make sure it is a question that you ask your kids’ birth parents. It’s also a great question to ask expectant parents who are considering placing with you.
