I love winter.
But I hate how most Januarys bring this nasty inversion to the Salt Lake valley where I live.
The inversion makes it hard/impossible to even see our beloved mountains until we are right next to them. It’s horrible. And bad for you.
Enter the blue skies of Midway to save the day! It was like an inversion miracle!
We recently took our little family on a weekend getaway to Midway where we got above the inversion and inhaled some fresh mountain air. It was just what we needed for a weekend staycation.
We stayed at Zermatt–a four-diamond luxury resort, a Swiss escape at the base of the Wasatch Mountains. It’s glorious.
We relaxed in our room in front of the fire place while the boys played “HOT LAVA” jumping from bed to bed. I love having a fireplace in my hotel room. It’s so cozy!
Mr. R took the big boys swimming while Baby Jack and I took a nap in the room. A nap? So luxurious!
Then we headed over to the Homestead. In the fall we took our family on a weekend excursion to this nostalgic and unique hotel just across the street from Zermatt. It is a totally different feel (more homey!) than Zermatt, but so charming. We had dinner as a family at Simon’s Restaurant. My two oldest boys fought over the noodles that Gavin ordered even though Tyson devoured his cheeseburger with his favorite side–fruit. (He does not like french fries. Say what?!)
I personally though the warm cinnamon roll bread pudding was the best of the meal. (Like a pizookie or cazookie only with a cinnamon roll!)
Then we headed back to the hotel for a movie and snuggle time with the boys. They always look so adorable in hotel beds. Love these kids!
The next day we packed up our brood and headed to Soldier Hollow where we went tubing on their groomed tubing runs and didn’t have to walk up to the top of the hill. That’s my kind of sledding, friends! Getting our passes was a little chaotic, but the actual tubing was fantastic.
The tubing runs were so fast–we loved it! They limit the number of people that they give tickets to so the lines are kept short; something I really appreciated.
And it’s beautiful. Let’s not forget that.
Have you been up to Midway before?
I fell in love with it years and years ago as it is where I completed my first year as a third grade teacher. The people are awesome and the Swiss-inspired architecture is a theme that runs through the whole town. It is very cool.
With unique features such as the Crater, Spa, restaurants, the Homestead and Zermatt Resorts are the perfect place for a family getaway.

I’m so jealous!! I LOVE Midway. My grandparents live there so we would visit all the time. We’ve stayed at the Zermatt too, it’s awesome. That is memory lane for me.
